It's been a while since I last blogged (2 months-ish), woops.
But anyway, to ease myself back in, I thought I'd post something that caught my eye yesterday, along with the eyes of everyone else on social media. It's J.W. Anderson's first campaign at the helm of Loewe, the Spanish leather goods brand whose previous ads featured glamazon Penelope Cruz in a series of jewel-toned, dramatically-lit images. Shot by Steven Meisel, these images couldn't be a further cry from the glossy branding it adopted under Stuart Vevers.
When the LMVH group took on J.W. Anderson part of the deal was that he would head up Loewe, and they'd singled him out for the job because of his ability to make the old and traditional new.
“When I first came to Loewe, I saw that it doesn’t have to be all about fashion,” Anderson told the New York Times. “In my own brand, I exercise fashion. If I’m going to be challenged in a different way, it has to be about a cultural landscape.”
My favourite image is the last one on the beach, it reminds me of Seurat's bathers. I also love Anderson's eclectic combinations of all the different components of Loewe, from the logo to the mechanics of producing its goods. This fresh take is definitely far more up my street and assuredly on the industry's radar.
